This modern house is set at the edge of a ravine. The client wanted a very contemporary landscape design that would transition down an existing natural slope, offering a series of spaces that would bring them closer to nature along the ravine. The rock retaining walls constructed in a linear formation provide the translation between contemporary and natural. Large module patio blocks bring the modern house design elements in to the landscape and formal, linear plantings reinforce the contemporary feel, while providing a variety of seasonal color and texture. We designed the front driveway using concrete and paving stone to provide a color and texture difference to break up the driveway space. The front steps were designed with low built in planters on both sides to widen the feel at the front door, and a custom designed water feature accents the front of the house. Seasonal planters provide color and textural interest throughout the 4 seasons.
